Marlins' All Star Stanton has knee surgery

Reuters -  (Reuters) - Miami Marlins slugger Giancarlo Stanton has undergone surgery on his right knee and could miss up to six weeks of play after the Major League Baseball season resumes following the All Star break, the team said on Sunday. Stanton, the only Marlins player who was selected for the All Star game in Kansas City on Tuesday, felt his knee lock up last Monday and after an examination had the arthroscopic procedure done on Sunday. The 22-year-old right fielder, who is batting .284 with 19 home runs and 50 RBIs this season, is expected to be out of action for between four and six weeks. ...

Reuters - (Reuters) - Rookie pitcher Trevor Bauer redeemed a rocky start to his career and recorded his first win in Arizona's 7-1 victory over the visiting Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday. The 21-year-old Bauer struck out six batters and allowed just two hits in six shutout innings, in his third start in the major leagues. Reuters - (Reuters) - U.S. Olympic basketball team guard Chris Paul is likely to sit out the next few scrimmages after suffering a sprained right thumb, ESPN reported. The U.S. team named its 12-member squad on Saturday, after a string of injuries to some of the star players seen as likely to be part of the squad, including Dwight Howard, Derrick Rose, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh. Knee ligament injuries may be more common in men: study

Reuters -  (Reuters) - Men have a greater number of knee ligament injuries than women, despite research suggesting that women's knees are more prone to anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tears and surgeries to fix them, according to a Swedish study. The report, published in the American Journal of Sports medicine, counted the injuries across the entire Swedish population, not just among players of particular sports or in certain regions. ...
