Federal wildlife officials propose to list the bistate sage grouse as threatened, which would give special protections to birds along the California-Nevada border. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has announced a proposal to list the bistate sage grouse as threatened under the Endangered Species Act, affording special protections to about 5,000 birds along the California-Nevada border.        

USC students not enamored with recent security measures

Tar pits' microfossils stir big interest from Page museum scientists

Critical scientific knowledge is being mined from microfossils dragged up with showier mastodons and such from the La Brea tar pits. Perhaps in pursuit of prey, a senior saber-tooth cat with chronic arthritis and damaged teeth fell into the death trap now known as the La Brea tar pits and died, attracting swarms of scavenging insects and rodents.
