U.S. judge orders release of mentally ill Guantanamo prisoner

MIAMI (Reuters) - A federal judge has ordered the release of a Guantanamo Bay prisoner suffering from severe mental illness who has been spent much of his time at a psychiatric ward on the U.S. naval base since he arrived more than 11 years ago. U.S. District Judge Royce Lamberth issued a release order on Friday for Ibrahim Idris, a native of Sudan who has been held as an enemy combatant but not formally charged. The decision came after the lawyers for the U.S. Department of Justice filed court papers on Wednesday indicating the government would no longer oppose his release. ...

Atossa recalls breast health device, shares tumble

(Reuters) - Atossa Genetics Inc said it would recall a medical device used to collect breast fluid for cancer detection along with a test that uses it, seven months after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration said the device needed additional clearance. Atossa, whose shares fell 46 percent in extended trading, said the MASCT system and the ForeCYTE test may produce false results. The FDA's warning letter on February 21 said the system required additional clearance as changes were made to the collection process after its approval. ...

Wearing leg shackles and a red jail uniform, Ross William Ulbricht was led into the San Francisco court room, where he was represented by a public defender during the 10-minute proceeding. FDA approves Baxter's intravenous nutritional supplement

(Reuters) - The U.S. Food and Drug Administration said on Friday it has approved Baxter International Inc's nutritional supplement Clinolipid, moving quickly to alleviate a drug shortage. Clinolipid is an injectable source of calories and essential fatty acids designed for adults who cannot eat or drink. It contains a mixture of refined olive and soybean oils. "The FDA has been very concerned about the short supply of injectable lipid emulsion products," said Dr. Donna Griebel, director of the agency's gastroenterology division. ...
