Wie and Thompson tied for lead at LPGA major Saturday, Apr 05, 2014 08:17 PM PDT (Reuters) - Michelle Wie was in a strong position to win her first major after hitting a four-under-par 68 to share the lead with fellow American Lexi Thompson at the end of the third round of the Kraft Nabisco Championship on Saturday. If Wie was occasionally a little timid with the putter, so too was teenager Thompson, who might have had the lead outright had she not three-putted the final hole for a 69. Wie and Thompson were two strokes ahead of British teenager Charley Hull and South Korean veteran Pak Se Ri, who shared third place on the leaderboard at the first major of the LPGA season. Now 24, Wie has been playing in professional tournaments for more than a decade, which makes her a seasoned veteran compared to 19-year-old Thompson. Full Story | Top |

California Chrome wins Santa Anita Derby in style Saturday, Apr 05, 2014 04:57 PM PDT (Reuters) - California Chrome stamped himself as the likely favorite for next month's Kentucky Derby with a runaway win in Saturday's $1 million Santa Anita Derby. The three-year-old colt lived up to his big reputation when he blew away his rivals to win one of the last major lead-up races before the 140th Kentucky Derby. Jockey Victor Espinoza, who won the 2002 Kentucky Derby with War Emblem, allowed odds-on favorite California Chrome to settle just outside the early leader before taking over entering the final straight. Once he got his nose in front, California Chrome instantly shot clear of the field and cruised to victory by five and a quarter lengths despite being eased down by Espinoza over the final half furlong. Kuchar leads by four going into Houston Open final round Saturday, Apr 05, 2014 03:41 PM PDT (Reuters) - Sergio Garcia faltered as Matt Kuchar took command of the Houston Open with a four-stroke lead after the third round on Saturday. The American started the day one shot behind Spaniard Garcia, who faded with a mediocre 73 to fall into a tie for second with American Cameron Tringale (69). Kuchar has a six-shot gap on fourth-placed Matt Jones of Australia as he seeks a confidence-boosting victory heading to the Masters next week. But he is mindful that he let one get away last week at the Texas Open, where he led halfway through the final round but could only tie for fourth. Full Story | Top |

Balthazar King (14-1) was second under Richard Johnson with Double Seven, the 10-1 joint favourite ridden by champion jockey Tony McCoy, in third. Pineau De Re was the 50-year-old's first National runner, although he has been coming to Aintree "long before I trained or even owned horses". Full Story | Top |
