The federal investigations stem from a Reuters report in March that Shenzhen, China-based ZTE, a telecommunications equipment maker, sold Iran's largest telecom firm a powerful surveillance system capable of monitoring landline, mobile and Internet communications. ...

LG to pay $380 million to settle display panel price-fixing case

Reuters - SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - South Korea's LG Electronics Inc has agreed to pay $380 million to resolve a civil lawsuit over price fixing in the liquid crystal display market, the largest amount paid among the ten companies who similarly settled the litigation, a court filing showed on Thursday. A class action lawsuit alleged a detailed conspiracy from the late 1990s through 2006 to fix LCD prices, resulting in higher costs for buyers of televisions, laptops and other electronics. Lam Research sees mostly stable demand for chip gear

Reuters - SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Chip manufacturing equipment maker Lam Research's chief executive said he has not seen any major deterioration in demand from customers concerned about a downturn in global technology spending. LAM Research CEO Martin Anstice's comments stood in contrast to rival Applied Materials , which this week slashed its full-year targets due to a sudden drop in orders in its biggest market towards the end of the current quarter. After years of decline, the popular website Digg is sold

Launched in 2004 by then 27-year old Kevin Rose, Digg rose to prominence as an aggregator of online content, becoming at one point one of the more highly-trafficked stops on the Internet. Yahoo breach puts users of other sites at risk

Adobe, NBC team up to stream Olympics to mobile devices

Reuters - (Reuters) - Adobe Systems Inc and NBC Olympics have joined forces to stream events live from the Olympic Summer Games in London to mobile users in the United States, for free. NBC Olympics, a division of NBC Sports Group, launched two applications built and run by Adobe technology, the companies said on Thursday. Groupon India drops rogue deals on American Eagle, Abercrombie

Reuters - CHICAGO (Reuters) - Groupon India has removed at least two deals for clothes by retailers American Eagle Outfitters Inc and Abercrombie & Fitch from its web site, because it did not have the rights to sell them, the company told Reuters. "The retailer is not authorized to sell this product, we will investigate the situation to determine appropriate next steps," American Eagle Outfitters spokesperson Rachel DiCarlo told Reuters in an email. NTT Docomo: expects to hit smartphones sales target

Liberty's Malone says he should get premium in Sirius deal

The two men have been locked in a battle for control of Sirius, the satellite radio company that Karmazin runs, but where Liberty ranks as controlling shareholder, with a 46 percent stake. In late May, Liberty told the U.S. Federal Communications Commission that it intended to take control of Sirius' 13-seat board. EU sides with big telcos on fiber broadband plan

SAP defies tech gloom with strong software sales

Reuters - FRANKFURT (Reuters) - Germany's SAP, the world's largest maker of business software, delivered a stronger-than-expected rise in profits led by robust sales, defying a weakening trend that has hit rivals. SAP said its software revenues, when measured by IFRS accounting standards, rose 19 percent to a record 1.06 billion euros ($1.3 billion) for the second-quarter. It had previously predicted a 15-20 percent increase at constant currencies.
