Matteson clings to John Deere lead, Stricker lurks

Reuters - (Reuters) - American Troy Matteson followed a blistering opening round with a less spectacular but solid second day carding a three-under 68 on Friday to hold a one-shot lead at the midway point of the John Deere Classic in Silvis, Illinois. Matteson, who posted a flawless 10-under 61 to open the tournament, turned in another polished effort on the TPC Deere Run layout mixing four birdies with his only bogey through two rounds for a two-day total of 13-under 129. Penn State plans to remodel the shower and locker room area in the Mildred and Louis Lasch Football Building as a direct result of Sandusky's crimes, spokesman David La Torre said. The former defensive coordinator was convicted last month of 45 counts of sexual molestation involving 10 boys. Some of the assaults took place in the football showers. ...

The 49-year-old former ballplayer, who is already serving time in state prison for grand theft auto, lewd conduct and assault with a deadly weapon, faces a maximum sentence of 20 years behind bars years in the fraud case.
