Soccer-Arsenal showing some ambition at last, says Usmanov
Friday, Nov 29, 2013 07:55 PM PST
Arsenal's decision to purchase Mesut Ozil and the form that has propelled them to the top of the English Premier League is proof the club is showing ambition and could be the catalyst for more trophies, part-owner Alisher Usmanov has said. Russian Usmanov, who owns just under 30 percent of the North London club, has previously questioned Arsenal's ambition and was reportedly at loggerheads with majority owner Stan Kroenke over the club's frugal spending. Arsenal have not won a major trophy since their FA Cup triumph in 2005 and while they have been an ever present in the Champions League places in the Premier League, have not realistically challenged for the title since the same year.

NBA-Streaking Heat show no signs of Thanksgiving hangover
Friday, Nov 29, 2013 07:45 PM PST
By Frank Pingue TORONTO, Nov 29 (Reuters) - The red-hot Miami Heat showed no signs of sluggishness from their massive U.S. Thanksgiving dinner at LeBron James's house, grinding out a 90-83 win over the Toronto Raptors for their ninth consecutive victory on Friday. A day after some Heat players were photographed at James's Akron, Ohio, home passed out from a massive meal typical of the holiday, Miami was forced to fight off a spirited Toronto rally before extending the league's longest active win streak. Miami looked headed for a blowout after building a 20-point lead with about five minutes left in the third quarter, but the Raptors closed out the period with a 16-4 run and then pulled to within two points with less than five minutes to play. We just want to try to get stops and execute offensively an we did that in the last couple minutes." DeMar DeRozan scored 25 points for the Raptors who were undone by horrendous free-throw shooting, especially late in the game when they missed six from the line in the final five minutes.
