(Reuters) - Michael Phelps displayed ice-cool composure as a record-breaking Olympic swimmer but he was a bag of nerves on Wednesday when he played the "noisiest hole in golf" in the pro-am competition for this week's Phoenix Open. Phelps, who retired from swimming as the most decorated Olympian of all time after winning a record 22 medals including 18 gold, was paired with U.S. Masters champion Bubba Watson when he stepped on to the 16th tee at the TPC Scottsdale. ...

Tennis-China's Li hopeful of quick return despite sore ankle

Jan 31 (Reuters) - Australian Open runner-up Li Na will visit doctors in Germany on Monday for treatment on her sore left ankle and is hopeful of returning to action in a fortnight, the Chinese world number five said on Thursday. Li rolled her ankle twice in losing the final of the women's singles at Melbourne Park to world number one Victoria Azarenka on Saturday. "It's sore, so (I) will see doctor on Monday," Li told reporters on a conference call. She has been recuperating at home in China and visiting family since her near-miss at the year's first grand slam. ...

Arab-American groups call Coke Super Bowl ad "racist"

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Arab-American groups have sharply criticized a Coca-Cola Super Bowl ad depicting an Arab walking through the desert with a camel, and one group said it would ask the beverage giant to change it before CBS airs the game on Sunday before an expected audience of more than 100 million U.S. viewers. "Why is it that Arabs are always shown as either oil-rich sheiks, terrorists, or belly dancers?" said Warren David, president of the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee, or ADC. ...

Seahawks' Hill arrested on felony domestic violence charges

SEATTLE (Reuters) - Seattle Seahawks linebacker Leroy Hill has been arrested on charges he assaulted his girlfriend repeatedly while holding her captive for about six hours at his home outside Seattle, police said on Wednesday. Hill, 30, an eight-year veteran of Seattle's National Football League team, faces charges of third-degree assault and unlawful imprisonment a day after the alleged assault, said Scott Behrbaum, a spokesman for the Issaquah police department. The charges are both felonies, according to Washington state statutes. ...

Singh admits using controversial spray

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Former world number one Vijay Singh has admitted using deer antler spray, but says he was unaware the extract contained an insulin-like growth factor that is banned by the PGA Tour. Fijian Singh, a three-times major winner, has been using the spray, which is believed to speed up recovery from injury, for "a couple of months", according to a Sports Illustrated article published online earlier this week. ...
