Alan Murray to leave the WSJ for Pew Research Center

(Reuters) - Alan Murray, deputy managing editor of the Wall Street Journal, will leave in January to assume the role of president of the Pew Research Center, the center announced on Friday. Murray, 57, is also the Journal's online executive editor. In his new role he will oversee the Pew Research Center's seven projects covering topics ranging from journalism to religion to social trends. Hurricane Sandy: NYC outdoor filming permits to resume Monday

LOS ANGELES (TheWrap.com) - New York City will resume issuing outdoor filming permits starting Monday, after suspending the practice earlier this week in the wake of Hurricane Sandy, the city's Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting said on Friday. Though permits will only be allowed on a case-by-case basis, and not in parts of the city hit hardest by the megastorm. Sandy slammed into the city and its five boroughs, leaving large swaths of Manhattan underwater and an estimated 228,000 people without power. Washington Post quarterly earnings rise

Net income from continuing operations attributable to the company rose to $44.7 million, or $6.03 per share, in the quarter, from $12.6 million, or $1.59 per share, a year earlier.
