S&P’s quarterly advance biggest since ’98

Stocks rose, extending the biggest first-quarter advance since 1998 for the S&P 500, as stronger-than-forecast growth in consumer sentiment in March and spending in February bolstered optimism in the economy. The index’s biggest-gaining category was energy. Health care shares also rose, with two of the biggest gainers being UnitedHealth Group and WellPoint.
