The 2008 world champion clocked a best time of one minute 40.691 seconds at the Sepang Circuit on a scorching hot Friday where track temperatures reached 44 Celsius (111 Fahrenheit) during the 90 minute session. However, Hamilton was one of many drivers who encountered the Malaysian gravel after locking his wheels and the Briton said over the team radio the Sepang track was "like driving on marbles". Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen was second quickest in a promising session for the Finn who clocked a best time of 1:40.843 just ahead of Hamilton's team mate Nico Rosberg, who won the season opener in Australia two weeks ago. Nadal, a three-time runner-up on the Miami hardcourts, will play seventh seed Tomas Berdych for a place in Sunday's final after the Czech eased into the last four with 6-4 7-6 (3) win over Ukraine's Alexandr Dolgopolov. The other semi-final will see world number two Novak Djokovic take on Japan's Kei Nishikori, who has already beaten fourth seed David Ferrer and 17-time grand slam winner Roger Federer. American Perez, who moved to a cross-handed putting method two months ago, finished in style with birdies at the final three holes for a four-under 68 at the TPC San Antonio. PGA Tour rookie Andrew Loupe was also four under after 11 holes when play was halted by darkness. Australian Rugby Union chief Bill Pulver told local media this week he was considering axing the A$250,000 ($231,400)allocated to each of the country's five Super Rugby teams to fund five rookie players in their squads. The ARU has already taken the knife to test match payments, with Australia's top players accepting a 23 percent cut in their fees from A$13,100 per game to A$10,000 over the next four years in a deal announced in October. However, a cut to the Super Rugby clubs' Extended Player Squad (EPS) funding would be in breach of the players' Collective Bargaining Agreement, Rugby Union Players' Association boss Greg Harris told The Australian. | NFL's Rice indicted on assault charge after fight with fiancée Thursday, Mar 27, 2014 04:08 PM PDT  (Reuters) - The National Football League's Ray Rice, a Pro Bowl running back, was indicted on Thursday on a charge of aggravated assault after his arrest last month for fighting with his fiancée in an Atlantic City casino, the county prosecutor's office said. Police arrested Rice, who plays for the Baltimore Ravens and is known for his anti-bullying advocacy, and his fiancée, Janay Palmer, shortly before 3 a.m. on February 15 at the Revel Casino and Hotel, charging them both with simple assault. The Ravens released a statement on its website supporting Rice. "We know there is more to Ray Rice than this one incident." A three-time Pro Bowl player, Rice signed a five-year, $35 million contract with the Ravens in 2012 and helped Baltimore to a Super Bowl victory over the San Francisco 49ers at the end of that season.
