The service, to be called Google Drive, could be announced as soon as Tuesday and would be offered with both free and premium for-pay versions, the source said. Google's "cloud storage" offering will incorporate search capabilities and allow users to store pictures, notes and other documents on the Internet and access them from any Web-connected device. ...

SK Hynix, Toshiba held early talks on joint Elpida bid: source

Reuters - SEOUL (Reuters) - SK hynix was approached by Toshiba Corp to make a joint bid for troubled Elpida Memory Inc and the two firms held initial talks, but failed to proceed into more serious discussions, a source close to SK hynix said on Tuesday. The source declined to elaborate on why the discussions collapsed. SK hynix declined to comment. Other sources told Reuters earlier on Tuesday that Toshiba was no longer bidding for Elpida, leaving three foreign firms including SK hynix and Micron Technology in the race to take over the company. Texas Instruments revenue forecast beats Street

Reuters - (Reuters) - Texas Instruments Inc forecast second-quarter revenue growth ahead of Wall Street estimates, signaling the end of a prolonged inventory-related decline in demand, sending its shares up 4 percent in late trading. The maker of chips used in everything from communications equipment to cars said it expects revenue growth for the rest of the year due to a broad-based improvement in demand after several quarters when its clients cut inventories. ... Microsoft infringes Motorola Mobility patents: ITC judge

Visitors play with Microsoft's Xbox 360 consoles at the Tokyo Game Show in ChibaWASHINGTON (Reuters) - Microsoft infringed Motorola Mobility's patents in making its popular Xbox gaming consoles, a judge for the U.S. International Trade Commission ruled on Monday. ITC Judge David Shaw said that Microsoft infringed four patents and did not infringe on a fifth in the complaint. The full commission will review the judge's decision and issue a final ruling in August. The patents in the complaint are for technology like wireless connections for the Xbox to the Internet and video compression to speed transmission. ...

STMicro's revenue slides as wireless struggles

Reuters - SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - European chipmaker STMicroelectronics posted lower first-quarter revenue as it restructures a struggling wireless business with partner Ericsson. STMicroelectronics, which makes chips for cars, computers and mobile phones, posted a first-quarter sales drop of 8 percent to $2.02 billion from $2.19 billion the fourth quarter. Analysts on average had expected first-quarter revenue of $2.02 billion, according to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S. NimbleTV takes a shot at 'TV Everywhere'

Reuters - NEW YORK (TheWrap.com) - NimbleTV is trying to make good on the promise of "TV Everywhere" that has eluded cable providers and customers alike. The service, which launches into beta Monday, lets subscribers access more than two dozen channels from wherever they are via the cloud. It also enables nearly unlimited recording of shows on those channels. After signing up for the service online, viewers can get cable on their computers or iPads without the permission of their satellite provider, but only if NimbleTV supports it. ST-Ericsson revamp pushes STMicro to mobile arm

Reuters - (Reuters) - Chip maker ST-Ericsson will cut 1,700 jobs and shift a key part of its product to parent STMicro, forcing the French co-owner to focus more on its loss-making and volatile wireless business. ST-Ericsson said it would partner with STMicro to develop application processors, after failing to cut a deal with one of four other companies.
