| Racist remarks by Clippers owner recorded with his consent: lawyer Thursday, May 01, 2014 08:16 PM PDT By Steve Gorman and Dana Feldman LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - The audio recording of racist comments that got Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling banned from the NBA was made with his consent by the woman he criticizes on the tape for "associating with black people," her lawyer said on Thursday. Los Angeles-based attorney Mac Nehoray also insisted that his client, who goes by the name of V. Stiviano, did not wish Sterling any ill will and had nothing to do with furnishing the recording to websites that released the audio over the weekend, igniting the racially charged scandal. | Soccer-Conte rages at referee after Europa League exit Thursday, May 01, 2014 04:28 PM PDT Juventus coach Antonio Conte blasted referee Mark Clattenburg after his side were knocked out of the Europa League by Benfica on Thursday, saying the Englishman was not good enough to officiate such an important match. Conte was convinced that his side should have been awarded a penalty when Fernando Llorente's 65th minute header appeared to strike defender Luisao on the hand. Conte also claimed Clattenburg had failed to control what he saw as Benfica's spoiling tactics. "We feel like we're not being taken seriously, and UEFA should show us more respect by sending a referee of the required standard." Juve missed out on the chance to contest the Europa League final on home turf, with Benfica returning to the Juventus Stadium on May 14 to take on Seville. Full Story | Top |

| Soccer-Stubborn Benfica hold Juventus to reach Europa final Thursday, May 01, 2014 03:56 PM PDT (Adds details, quotes) TURIN, May 1 (Reuters) - Benfica kept alive their dream of a first European trophy in 52 years after a goalless draw with Juventus in Turin on Thursday helped the newly-crowned Portuguese champions win their Europa League semi-final 2-1 on aggregate. Jorge Jesus's side will return to Turin on May 14 to take on Sevilla in the final after restricting the Serie A leaders to a handful of chances, despite having to play for 23 minutes of the second leg clash with 10 men after Enzo Perez was sent off. "We managed the advantage we had from the first leg really well and we deserve to be in the final because we were better than Juventus," said Benfica coach Jesus. The Portuguese side will be hoping to win their first continental title since 1962's European Cup triumph, since when they have lost seven finals, including last season's Europa League showpiece to Chelsea.
