The news came the day after the anti-mafia prosecutor's office said a warrant for Marcello Dell'Utri had been issued on Tuesday but that he was "unreachable". Dell'Utri himself had issued a statement in which he did not reveal where he was but said that he had "no intention" of escaping arrest and was undergoing medical checks because of poor health. "Marcello Dell'Utri is now at a Lebanese police station" in Beirut, Italian Interior Minister Angelino Alfano told reporters in Rome.

Former U.S. Marine's family asks Iran to reconsider prison term

New Hope for American Arrested as CIA 'Spy' in Iran?By Will Dunham WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The family of an Iranian-American former U.S. Marine held in Iran since 2011 called on Saturday for senior Iranian officials to review his conviction and 10-year prison sentence on charges of collaborating with the U.S. government and to free him. The family of Amir Hekmati, whose previous espionage conviction and death sentence in Iran were overturned in 2012, said he was retried in secret, convicted and sentenced to 10 years in prison on a charge of "practical collaboration with the American government." The family said he was innocent of the charges. Iran has not commented on any developments in the case. "The Hekmati family respectfully asks senior Iranian officials to review Amir's conviction, and to resolve this grave misunderstanding by granting Amir his freedom and a safe return home," the family, living in Flint, Michigan, said in a statement emailed to Reuters.

Venezuela protests: 181 reporters beaten, arrested or robbed

The Union of Press Workers said 60 percent of the attacks were carried out by security forces, with just a quarter done by demonstrators on either side. Since nearly daily protests began in early February, the union has tallied 82 cases of harassment, 40 physical attacks and 35 thefts or destruction of cameras and other materials by the police or demonstrators. It has also counted 23 arbitrary arrests of reporters, it said.

Lightning LW Malone arrested after traffic stop

Malone was charged Saturday with DUI and possession of cocaine after a traffic stop, police said. An officer saw Malone's SUV strike a curb after making a left turn from the center lane early Saturday, said Tampa Police Lt. Paul Lusczynski. After being pulled over, Malone got out of his vehicle, and the officer smelled alcohol on his breath, Lusczynski said. According to the police report, the officer also found 1.3 grams of cocaine in one of Malone's pockets. Malone was released from the Hillsborough County jail on $2,500 bond. Nigerian arrested for tweeting jail break photos freed

Yusuf Siyaka Onimisi, who works for a national electricity firm, was arrested and held incommunicado for at least 11 days after tweeting the pictures. I spoke with him earlier today and our mum is with him in Abuja," Sanusi Onimisi told AFP on telephone from the northern city of Kano. Frank Edohor, a family friend, had earlier told AFP about the release.
