Fashion's L'Wren Scott found dead in NYC in apparent suicide Monday, Mar 17, 2014 07:00 PM PDT By Patricia Reaney NEW YORK (Reuters) - Celebrated fashion designer L'Wren Scott, the girlfriend of Rolling Stones singer Mick Jagger, was found dead from an apparent suicide in her Manhattan apartment on Monday, police said. Scott, a former model whose slim-fitting dresses were favorites among Hollywood's A-list stars such as Nicole Kidman, Amy Adams and Penelope Cruz, was found hanging from a scarf. Police said they had preliminary information that Scott was 49, although that had not been confirmed by her family. Judge orders singer Chris Brown to stay in jail Monday, Mar 17, 2014 05:03 PM PDT By Eric Kelsey LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - A Los Angeles judge on Monday ordered R&B singer Chris Brown to remain in jail at least until a probation violation hearing next month after the judge expressed concern about his ability to stay out of trouble. Brown, 24, was arrested last Friday when he was dismissed from a Malibu, California, rehabilitation facility, triggering a violation of the singer's court-ordered treatment related to his 2009 assault of his then-girlfriend, the singer Rihanna. The singer's probation violation hearing is scheduled for April 23 and is complicated by a misdemeanor assault case he faces in Washington, D.C. on April 17. Brown was dismissed from the rehab center for violating four in-house rules, including inappropriately touching a female client on the elbow, initially refusing a drug test and making a provocative statement, Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge James Brandlin said. Kanye West placed on probation over scuffle with photographer Monday, Mar 17, 2014 04:59 PM PDT Rapper Kanye West was placed on a two-year probation on Monday and ordered to complete community service and anger management sessions after pleading no contest to misdemeanor charges stemming from an altercation with a photographer last year, a court spokeswoman said. Grammy-winning West, 36, did not appear at the Los Angeles Superior Courthouse and the no contest plea was entered on his behalf by his attorney Blair Berk. Photographer Daniel Ramos attended the hearing with his attorney, Gloria Allred. U.S. TV pitchman Trudeau sentenced to 10 years in prison Monday, Mar 17, 2014 04:30 PM PDT By Mary Wisniewski CHICAGO (Reuters) - U.S. TV pitchman Kevin Trudeau, who was convicted last year of criminal contempt for exaggerating the contents of his weight-loss book in infomercials, was sentenced on Monday to 10 years in prison. Trudeau, 51, who has been held in federal custody since his conviction in November, will also have five years of supervised release after serving his sentence, U.S. District Court Judge Ronald Guzman said. Trudeau was found guilty last November of violating a 2004 federal court settlement with the Federal Trade Commission that barred him from misrepresenting the contents of his books in advertisements. A jury found he violated the agreement while marketing his book, "The Weight Loss Cure 'They' Don't Want You To Know About," in infomercials made in 2006 and 2007 that aired about 32,000 times. Her death followed the untimely deaths of two giants in fashion who succumbed to suicide: British designer Alexander McQueen, who had suffered from depression, died in London in February 2010 at the age of 40, while his close friend, British fashion editor Isabella Blow, died in 2007 at the age of 48. Among the units that will be hit is the Sony interactive team that supports digital marketing, the source said on condition of anonymity because the information is not yet public. Under pressure from hedge fund manager Daniel Loeb to improve profitability at its studio, in November Sony hired consultancy Bain & Co to identify more than $100 million in cost cuts through layoffs and other means. TV stocks fall as broker sees FCC clampdown on ad-sharing deals Monday, Mar 17, 2014 12:39 PM PDT (Reuters) - Shares of TV station operators such as Nexstar Broadcasting Group Inc and Sinclair Broadcast Group Inc fell after a Wells Fargo Securities note said the Federal Communications Commission was likely to clamp down on deals that involve TV stations jointly selling ads. The brokerage said that after having spoken with regulators it "appears" that the FCC will not allow any pending deals with any kind of "shared" arrangements to close until or unless they are restructured to exclude such stations and related loan guarantees. The FCC will vote on new rules on March 31 that would prohibit broadcast companies from controlling more than two TV stations in a market by sharing advertising sales staff. Early George Harrison guitar leads Beatles memorabilia auction Monday, Mar 17, 2014 08:02 AM PDT (Reuters) - An electric guitar played by George Harrison on British television prior to the Beatles' "invasion" of the United States will go on the auction block along with a rare album cover signed by the Fab Four, Julien's Auctions said on Monday. Harrison's black-and-white 1962 Rickenbacker 425 electric guitar is expected to fetch between $400,000 and $600,000 at an auction on May 16-17 at the Hard Rock Cafe in New York City. Harrison, who died in 2001 at age 58, played the guitar on 1963 appearances on British TV shows "Ready Steady Go!" and "Thank Your Lucky Stars" months before the group brought Beatlemania to the United States with a series of performances on "The Ed Sullivan Show" in February 1964, launching the British Invasion of rock bands. New Zealand court fines Chris Pine for drink driving Monday, Mar 17, 2014 07:56 AM PDT U.S. film actor and "Star Trek" star Chris Pine pleaded guilty in a New Zealand court to drink-driving and was fined and disqualified from driving for six months, media reported on Monday. The legal limit in New Zealand is 80 micrograms. She accepted that Pine, who stood silently throughout the hearing, was remorseful, and had made a large donation to a New Zealand charity.
