London fashion shows draw inspiration from painting, sportswear Monday, Feb 17, 2014 03:54 PM PST By Li-mei Hoang and Brenda Goh LONDON (Reuters) - London's fashion designers looked to painting and sportswear for inspiration as leading fashion editors, models and celebrities flocked to the capital's biggest runway shows on Monday. British heritage brand Burberry sent models down the runway in long flowing dresses and scarves, daubed with brushstroke designs of flowers, leaves and autumnal abstract prints in shades of cornflower blue, lemon yellow and blush pink. The show, which featured a live performance from musicians Paloma Faith, Ed Harcourt and Rhodes, was attended by actors Bradley Cooper and Naomie Harris, as well as U.S. Vogue editor Anna Wintour and Harry Styles from boy band One Direction. Miami artist charged with smashing $1 million Ai Weiwei museum vase Monday, Feb 17, 2014 03:00 PM PST By Zachary Fagenson MIAMI (Reuters) - Miami police have arrested a local artist who they say destroyed a $1 million vase by Chinese dissident artist Ai Weiwei to protest that the city's newly opened museum is only displaying international art. Dominican-born Maximo Caminero, 51, was arrested and charged on Sunday with criminal mischief after picking up one of 16 brightly painted vases at the Perez Art Museum Miami and throwing it to the ground when confronted by security, according to a police report. UK court sends BSkyB's pay-TV terms back for review Monday, Feb 17, 2014 08:04 AM PST Britain's Court of Appeal on Monday ruled that a lower court should look again at how pay-TV group BSkyB sells its sports channels to rivals, in the latest twist in a near four-year battle. Market regulator Ofcom ruled in March 2010 that Rupert Murdoch's BSkyB should make its two main sports channels available to rivals such as Virgin Media and BT at a lower price. Murdoch's ex-British paper boss Brooks to start phone-hacking defense Monday, Feb 17, 2014 12:21 AM PST By Michael Holden LONDON (Reuters) - Rebekah Brooks, the former boss of Rupert Murdoch's British newspapers, is due to begin her defense on Wednesday against allegations she was complicit in widespread phone-hacking at the now defunct News of the World weekly. The case centers on widespread phone-hacking by journalists at the News of the World Sunday tabloid, which Murdoch closed amid huge public anger in July 2011, and other allegations of crimes by staff on its sister daily paper The Sun. Brooks, who ran News Corp.'s British newspaper arm News International until July 2011 and had previously edited both papers, denies conspiracy to illegally intercept voicemail messages on mobile phones, conspiracy to commit misconduct in a public office by authorizing illegal payments to public officials, and conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.
