| French-born film artist Prouvost wins 2013 Turner Prize Monday, Dec 02, 2013 01:25 PM PST By Michael Roddy LONDONDERRY, Northern Ireland (Reuters) - French-born film installation artist Laure Prouvost won Britain's prestigious Turner Prize on Monday for a short film clip that in part tells the story of a fictional grandfather digging a hole to Africa and disappearing down it. An emotional and surprised Prouvost, who lives and works in London, told a crowd of hundreds at the awards ceremony: "I didn't expect this at all ... I was sure it was not me." After presenting the award, the Oscar-nominated Irish actress Saoirse Ronan brought Prouvost's baby onto the stage to a chorus of "aahs" from the audience. Prouvost told reporters she felt Britain was her "adopted" home because "this is the country that let me grow". Full Story | Top |

"I'm very, very thrilled," Sotheby's Asia CEO Kevin Ching told Reuters after the event. Zao, who's known for his abstract style, "will become, or may already be, the Picasso of China," he said. Sotheby's held the auction as competition between the New York-based auction house and its long-time rival Christie's moves into one of the world's hottest art markets amid a government crackdown on corruption and luxury spending. | Comcast tests new ad tech to help networks capture binge viewers Sunday, Dec 01, 2013 09:02 PM PST Comcast Corp, the largest U.S. cable operator, is testing new advertising technology that inserts up-to-date commercials into past episodes of TV shows that are available on demand, a development that could help television networks generate additional revenue. As people get used to catching up on or binging on older episodes of shows through online services like Netflix and Hulu, cable companies and TV networks are plying viewers with past episodes from current seasons that can be watched on demand through their cable set-top boxes. The new technology is meant to give TV networks a way to earn ad dollars from earlier episodes. Full Story | Top |
