Brazil World Cup legislation moves closer to passage

Reuters - BRASILIA (Reuters) - Brazilian lawmakers on Wednesday moved a step closer to passing a long-delayed measure key to preparations for the 2014 soccer World Cup, breaking a gridlock in Congress that threatened to delay President Dilma Rousseff's legislative agenda this year. The lower house of deputies voted in favor of the bill after Rousseff appeared to bow to pressure from lawmakers of her unruly coalition to release some frozen cash for their pet projects. Magic Johnson group to buy Dodgers for record $2 billion

Reuters -  LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - A group spear-headed by former basketball great Earvin "Magic" Johnson agreed to buy the Los Angeles Dodgers baseball team for a record $2 billion, team owner Frank McCourt announced on Tuesday, capping a two-year drama that started with McCourt's divorce and wound its way through bankruptcy court.

Reuters -  LONDON (Reuters) - Britain's biggest construction company Balfour Beatty has warned all its 12,000 staff in the UK that their jobs are at risk, the construction industry magazine Building reported on Wednesday. A spokeswoman for the London-based company, which developed the city's Olympic Aquatics Centre, is cited as saying all 12,000 staff in the construction services division had been notified, but did not specify how many jobs would be at risk. ...

Davis appeared to extend his middle finger toward a fan during Orlando's 117-101 road win against the Toronto Raptors on Monday after being hit on the head by an opposing player.
