May 10 Tour de Putnam Cancelled
Wednesday, May 07, 2014 06:42 PM PDT
https://www.facebook.com/PutnamCyclingClassicPutnam County Tourism in cooperation with Putnam County Sheriff's office and other county emergency services bureaus has decided to cancel the 2014 bike events and pasta picnic.  Due to the recent weather predictions of rain and spiking air temperatures potentially causing scattered thunderstorms and light hail we have decided to cancel the event for safety reasons.  Safety is the most important part of executing an event with 4 courses and covering over 150 miles of Putnam roads.  Our safety and support network would be compromised dramatically in the event of bad weather and we could not offer the level of safety to our riders that they would expect in those difficult conditions. This event is designed to showcase our wonderful county and all its beauty.  We are proud to have had the incredible support of our community, our sponsors and all the county agencies.  We are thankful to the participants who wanted to join us this year and we are happy to extend full entry in our 2015 event.

Wednesday, May 07, 2014 05:26 PM PDT
Senator Mary Landrieu (D-LA) speaks to reporters after the Democratic weekly policy luncheon on Capitol HillBy Thomas Ferraro WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Democratic U.S. Senator Mary Landrieu accused Republicans on Wednesday of being more interested in exploiting the long-delayed Keystone XL oil pipeline project as an election issue than in voting to build it. In a speech on the Senate floor, Landrieu, who represents the oil-producing state of Louisiana where public support for Keystone runs high, urged Republican leaders to reverse themselves and accept a deal offered by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. Reid, a Nevada Democrat, has said that if Republicans allow passage of a bipartisan energy bill, he would permit a separate vote on Keystone, a project that polls show most Americans support. Environmentalists oppose Keystone - which would bring more than 800,000 barrels a day from Canada's oil sands to refineries in Texas - saying it could lead to spills and emissions linked to climate change.

The White House Calls In Al Roker For An Assist On Climate ChangeWASHINGTON -- A new climate report is out, and you better call Al. Al Roker, that is. Not the other Al. When it comes to a celebrity messenger, you don't get much more beloved -- and noncontroversial -- than Al Roker. The veteran "Today Show" weatherman, along with television meteorologists from around the country, met with President Barack Obama in the Rose Garden on Tuesday morning as part of the administration's latest push on climate change. The gathering coincided with the release of the new National Climate Assessment, an 800-plus-page tome documenting climate impacts in the U.S. ...
