| Icebreakers rush to help ship trapped in Antarctic ice Thursday, Dec 26, 2013 11:05 AM PST (Reuters) - Three icebreakers are en route to an area off the coast of Antarctica to help free a vessel carrying 74 people, including a scientific expedition team, which is stranded in thick sheets of ice, officials said on Thursday. "We're surrounded by sea ice, we just can't get through," Chris Turney, a professor of climate change at the University of New South Wales said in a video posted on YouTube. Three ships with icebreaking capability have been dispatched to help dislodge the vessel, which is located about 1,500 nautical miles south of Hobart, Tasmania, the Australian Maritime Safety Authority said. In 2009, Pew found that belief in global warming had fallen to a low of 59 percent, down from 77 percent in 2007. | More flood warnings as stormy weather persists Thursday, Dec 26, 2013 05:39 AM PST Heavy rains and strong winds were battering parts of Britain on Boxing Day, bringing an increased risk of further flooding across swathes of the country, authorities warned Thursday. The Environment Agency said there had been around 1,000 reports of properties flooding in England during the Christmas storms. Parts of southern, south west, central and eastern England were most at risk of further floods, the agency said as it issued 66 flood warnings indicating areas of expected flooding where urgent actions was needed. The Met Office warned that another storm coming in from the Atlantic was expected to hit Britain Thursday night into Friday, with winds of more than 70mph expected in coastal areas.
