By Euan Rocha TORONTO (Reuters) - Teletubbies owner DHX Media said on Thursday it will acquire Family Channel and three other children's channels from BCE's Bell Media for C$170 million in cash, adding content distribution to its current capabilities. The deal, cheered by analysts and investors, sent DHX shares surging 38 percent to a lifetime-high of C$5.74 in morning trading on the Toronto Stock Exchange. Halifax-based DHX, which creates, produces or licenses, children's shows such as Teletubbies, Yo GabbaGabba and Caillou, said the deal will boost its earnings and give it a stable stream of subscription-based revenue. RBC Capital Markets analyst Haran Posner described the deal as "transformational," noting that DHX is paying a very attractive price for high quality assets.

BT adds NBA to growing sports rights collection

BT entered the sports market only in August when it launched three channels after securing a share of English Premier League soccer rights. It further shook up the sector this month when it outbid BSkyB to win the contract for Champions League soccer from 2015. The multi-year deal to show the leading basketball league from the United States starts with a game on Sunday evening between Indiana Pacers and LA Clippers, BT said on Thursday.

Bieber gets clean-up request after painting Australia hotel wall

The abstract graffiti was painted in the tennis court area of the QT Hotel on the Gold Coast, 80 km (50 miles) southeast of Brisbane, and posted on Bieber's Instagram page, where it has attracted more than 545,000 "likes". "This eyesore has no place in the city," a spokesman for Mayor Tom Tate told Reuters. But at the end of the day it'll get cleaned up, whether or not he decides to." The mayor's office sent a "graffiti removal kit" to Bieber at the hotel but the singer had already left for Sydney for his concerts on Friday and Saturday.
