The first Detroit batter of the game scored and then the Tigers rode Scherzer and the bullpen the rest of the way to a champagne-filled clubhouse. Scherzer pitched seven strong innings, giving up just two hits among the 123 pitches he threw for his 21st win of the season. Along with the 10 strikeouts, he also allowed six walks. ...

Former San Diego Chargers safety Paul Oliver commits suicide in Georgia

By Tim Gaynor (Reuters) - Former San Diego Chargers safety Paul Oliver, 29, has shot and killed himself at his home in an Atlanta suburb, police said on Wednesday. Oliver was found dead on Tuesday night in Marietta, Georgia, about 20 miles northwest of downtown Atlanta, a spokesman for the Cobb County Police Department said. The Cobb County Medical Examiner's Office said that Oliver, a member of the Chargers from 2007 to 2011, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. ...

The Soyuz rocket and capsule lifted off at 4:58 p.m. EDT on an express route to the station, which orbits about 250 miles above Earth. Less than six hours after liftoff, veteran Russian commander Oleg Kotov and rookies Sergey Ryazanskiy of Russia and Michael Hopkins of the United States reached the outpost, a $100 billion project of 15 nations.
