By Theopolis Waters CHICAGO (Reuters) - Tyson Foods Inc, the largest U.S. meat processor, said it would suspend purchases of cattle fed the growth enhancer Zilmax, saying it was worried about cases of cattle with difficulty walking although it did not know the specific cause of problem. Rumors of Tyson's action sparked a sharp rally in Chicago Mercantile Exchange cattle futures on Wednesday. Removing Zilmax from feed rations would bring down the weight of cattle, resulting in less available beef and likely drive up beef prices. ...

Bush was recovering at his home in Dallas on Wednesday, a day after undergoing surgery for a blocked artery, a Bush spokesman said. Bush, 67, is "doing great," his spokesman Freddy Ford said, after a stent, a wire mesh coil used to prop open arteries, was placed in the former president's heart at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas on Tuesday. The blockage was discovered on Monday during Bush's annual physical at the Cooper Clinic in Dallas. His doctors recommended the stent and Bush agreed to the procedure, Ford said. ...

By Gene Emery NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - Elderly people with high blood sugar - but not high enough to be diabetic - face a slightly greater risk of developing dementia, according to a new study of over 2,000 volunteers. The research, published in the New England Journal of Medicine, does not prove that high glucose levels directly cause dementia. But having an average glucose reading of 105 to 120 milligrams per deciliter (mg/dL) was tied to an increase in dementia risk by 10 percent to 20 percent in non-diabetics. If the reading was below 100, the risk was lower. ...

Array says Amgen ends agreement, to cut 20 percent jobs

(Reuters) - Array Biopharma said it would cut 20 percent of its workforce as Amgen Inc plans to end an agreement to develop and market Array's drug to treat Type 2 diabetes. Array shares fell as much as 7 percent to $6.12 in trading after the bell. The company said it would record a one-time restructuring charge of $2.7 million in the first quarter of fiscal 2014. The company said it would have 200 employees after cutting 50 jobs. Most of the job cuts will be in the company's drug discovery business. ...

An analysis showed that all 451 notices of additive safety voluntarily submitted to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration between 1997 and 2012 came from people who had a vested interest in the outcome of those assessments. ...

The news was first reported by People Magazine, where Gottlieb said the cancer had been "detected early and he has been surgically cured."
