Five plaintiffs filed a proposed class action against Facebook in 2011, saying the social networking giant's "Sponsored Stories" program shared user's "likes" of certain advertisers without paying them or allowing them to opt out. The case has highlighted tension between privacy concerns and Facebook's drive to monetize user content. ...

InterDigital loses first round of US case against Huawei, others

By Diane Bartz WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Huawei Technologies, Nokia Corp and ZTE Corp did not violate cell phone patents owned by InterDigital Inc, a judge at the International Trade Commission said in a preliminary decision on Friday. The ITC's final decision in the case is expected to be issued in October. InterDigital, which buys and licenses patents, had accused the companies of violating seven patents used to make 3G wireless devices. The patents cover conservation of power and ensuring the right data goes to the right recipient, among other technology. ...

Higher cable, satellite prices boost Shaw's profit

But the company, the dominant cable TV operator in Western Canada, managed only a marginal rise in third-quarter profit as it lost subscribers to its video cable and satellite TV services. Shaw said the number of subscribers to its video services fell by 26,578, or 1.3 percent, to 2.07 million in the quarter, while the number of those taking its "direct to home" satellite service slipped by 2,930 or 0. ...

T-Mobile buys wireless spectrum from U.S. Cellular for $308 million
