Apple had initially been accused of infringing on six patents for iPhone-related technology covering everything from reducing signal noise to programming the device's touch screen so a user's head does not accidentally activate it while talking on the phone. If Apple had been found guilty of violating the patent, its devices could have been banned from being imported into the United States. ...

Netflix adds 2 million U.S. streaming customers, shares jump 24 percent

Netflix shares rose to $216.62 in after-hours trading, after closing at $174.37 on Nasdaq. For January through March, Netflix recorded $19 million in net income, excluding a loss for retiring debt, and adjusted earnings per share of 31 cents. The results topped Wall Street analysts' average forecast of 19 cents per share, according to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S. ...

Senate votes to move forward on Internet sales tax bill

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A bill giving U.S. states the authority to require out-of-state retailers to collect sales tax for online purchases cleared a procedural hurdle in the Senate on Monday, paving the way for a final vote later in the week. Senators voted to end debate on the bipartisan bill, which is opposed by many online retailers. The stake was confirmed by ValueAct CEO Jeffrey Ubben at an investor conference in New York, after being first reported by CNBC television. Microsoft shares rose as much as 4.8 percent to $31.18, touching their highest levels since last September, before paring gains. Baidu rejects "false" statement it plans to buy Zynga

(Reuters) - Chinese search engine firm Baidu Inc rejected as fake a press release issued on Monday that said it was to buy U.S. social gaming company Zynga Inc. Zynga shares jumped 4 percent in heavy premarket trading after the press release, on website www.prurgent.com, said Baidu would offer $10 per share for the company. Zynga shares eased back to $3.24, up 1.5 percent, in morning trade on the Nasdaq. Baidu's director of international communications, Kaiser Kuo, said the statement was false.
