Reuters - NEW YORK (Reuters) - Maria Sharapova and Andy Murray led a torrent of praise for Kim Clijsters on Saturday as the three-time U.S. Open champion prepared for the final tournament of her storied career. Clijsters is chasing a fairytale ending at Flushing Meadows before retiring at the age of 29. She first retired in 2007 but returned two years later to become the first wildcard to win the U.S. Open and the first mother to win a major championship since Australian Evonne Goolagong Cawley in 1980. Reuters - NEW YORK (Reuters) - Defending champion Novak Djokovic said he feels "physically stronger and better prepared" than ever going into the U.S. Open, which begins on Monday. The world number two, who lost the top spot and his Wimbledon title when he was beaten by Roger Federer in the semi-finals last month, has won the last three hard-court grand slam events. The 25-year-old bounced back from missing out on an Olympic medal by winning in Toronto and reaching the final in Cincinnati and said he was confident of another good run in New York. ... Reuters - BOULDER, Colorado (Reuters) - Rory Sutherland of Australia pedaled to a solo uphill stage win and defending race titlist Levi Leipheimer of the United States moved into the race lead with a fourth-place stage finish on Saturday at the USA Pro Challenge. Sutherland, who rides for the United States-based UnitedHealthcare team, completed the Golden to Boulder road race, the final mountain stage, in four hours six minutes 12 seconds.
