Reuters - PARIS (Reuters) - It took Cadel Evans seven attempts to win the Tour de France at and the Australian defending champion will discover in the three weeks ahead just how hard it is to win a second. Twice a runner-up in the greatest cycling show on earth, in 2007 and 2008, Evans finally set the record straight last year in a strong and confident display of all-round talent. Yet the 2012 race which starts in Liege on Saturday is an awkward one, with a rare emphasis on time trials at the expense of mountain stages, while Evans's preparation was not as ideal as it was a year ago. ... Maggette, acquired by Charlotte last June as part of a three-team trade, played in 32 games last season with the Bobcats averaging 15 points, 3.9 rebounds and 1.2 assists. Last season, Gordon played 52 games for Detroit, averaging 12.5 points, 2.4 assists and 2.3 rebounds, while shooting .442 from the field and .429 from beyond the three-point line. ...

Alabama school district settles suit from civil rights era

Reuters - WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A school district in Alabama has agreed to hire more non-whites to settle a nearly 50-year-old lawsuit stemming from the segregation of blacks and whites, U.S. officials said on Tuesday. The Fort Payne City school district in Fort Payne, a predominately white city in the northeastern part the state, reached a settlement agreement with the Department of Justice requiring it to hire a more diverse workforce of teachers, administrators and general staff. Club sues NYC after Brown-Drake brawl, loses liquor license

Reuters - NEW YORK (Reuters) - The Manhattan nightclub where a brawl erupted between the entourages of hip-hop artists Chris Brown and Drake has sued New York City to allow it to re-open its doors. The New York hotspot Greenhouse claims it was "unnecessary and unlawful" for the city to shut it down in the aftermath of the June 16 bottle-launching fight in its downstairs club "W.i.P." The club claims in the lawsuit filed last Friday that it loses approximately $264,000 each week it is not open. Greenhouse is suing to permit an immediate opening of its doors. ... Full Story

Most of the more than 250 London firms surveyed by the Confederation of British Industry said they were looking forward to the Olympics which London will host from July 27-August 12.
