Reuters - (Reuters) - Close to one in three people in the United States may sleepwalk during their lives, according to a U.S. study that said severe depression and other sleep disorders may increase the possibility. A survey of 16,000 adults in 15 states found about 29 percent said they had sleepwalked at least once in their lives, close to three percent did it between once a year and once a month, and one percent sleepwalked at least twice per month. ... OSHA probing former Florida postal worker's illness claims

Reuters - WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. Postal Service said it is cooperating with a U.S. government investigation into a former postal worker's claim that he has been seriously ill for more than a year after he says he came in contact with a suspicious package at the Florida facility where he worked. The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration last month opened a probe into the incident in early 2011 involving former Orlando sorting facility supervisor Jeffrey Lill, Michael D'Aquino, a spokesman for OSHA's southeast regional office, said on Monday. ... New Jersey man boasts magnetic attachment to iPod

Tattoo artist Dave Hurban displays an iPod Nano which he has attached to his wrists through magnetic piercings in his wrist in New York(Reuters) - Professional body piercer Dave Hurban is a man attached to his iPod. Literally. Hurban, 21, who works in a tattoo parlor in Newfield, New Jersey, implanted four metal studs in the skin of his wrist and secured his iPod to them magnetically. "I just invented the strapless watch," he said on Monday of his Apple Inc device, set to display a clock. Hurban cheerfully recounted how he mapped out the four corners of the iPod on his arm and then inserted four titanium studs into his skin. Once the incisions healed, he popped on his iPod, which is held in place magnetically. ...

FDA says unsure if Novartis MS pill caused deaths

Reuters - WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Health regulators said on Monday they could not definitively link Novartis AG's multiple sclerosis pill Gilenya with the deaths of people who took the drug. The Food and Drug Administration said the deaths included a patient with extensive brainstem lesions from multiple sclerosis who died of unknown causes within 24 hours of taking the drug. Other deaths were linked to cardiovascular issues. "For each of these deaths, Gilenya's contribution to the death was unclear," the agency said on its website. ... Full Story

Colon cancer test may not require laxatives: study

Reuters - NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - People getting checked for signs of colon cancer may not need to take a laxative if they choose a CT scan for their cancer screening over a tradition colonoscopy, according to a new study. The findings suggest a so-called CT colonography is almost as good at identifying certain polyps as a traditional colonoscopy, and researchers said eliminating the need for laxatives may encourage more people to get screened. Accretive Health shares rise after it denies Minnesota allegations

Reuters - (Reuters) - Shares of Accretive Health Inc rose as much as 8 percent on Monday, after the company denied Minnesota Attorney General's allegation that it violated patient privacy and debt collection laws. Shares of Chicago-based Accretive Health, which provides medical billing, insurance verification and other services to healthcare providers, were up 6 percent at $11.51 in late afternoon trading. Marijuana may ease multiple sclerosis symptoms

And a new clinical trial suggests they are not just blowing smoke. The study, published Monday, found that for 30 MS patients with muscle "spasticity," a few days of marijuana smoking brought some relief. French drugmaker on trial over weight-loss pill

Reuters - NANTERRE, France (Reuters) - French drugmaker Servier and its founder went on trial on Monday accused of misleading patients and authorities about a diabetes drug often prescribed for weight loss that officials blame for at least 500 deaths. The case, one of France's worst health scandals, has put authorities under scrutiny for allowing the sale of Mediator long after the medicine had been pulled in other European countries. Lundbeck says data supports H2 anti-depressant filing
