Reuters - MELBOURNE, Dec 16 (Reuters) - Holder Stuart Applebywithdrew from his Australian Masters title defence on Fridaybefore the second round due to a back injury he carried into thetournament. The 40-year-old Australian, a nine-time winner on the U.S.PGA Tour, played through the pain to card a one-under 70 inThursday's opening round at Melbourne's Victoria Golf Club butwithdrew after consulting his coach and physiotherapist. Pronger out for season with concussion

Key witness in Penn State abuse scandal may testify Friday

photoHARRISBURG, Pa (Reuters) - A key witness who said that he saw former assistant Penn State football coach Jerry Sandusky raping a 10-year-old boy in 2002 may testify in court on Friday, a legal source said. Mike McQueary, a graduate assistant in the university's football program in 2002, is expected to testify at a court hearing on charges against former Penn State athletic director Tim Curley and finance official Gary Schultz. Curley and Schultz were charged last month with perjury before a grand jury for testimony they gave about their knowledge of the alleged abuse. ...

Reuters - WASHINGTON, Dec 15 (Reuters) - E-Z-GO, a unit ofTextron Inc, is recalling 21,900 TXT golf carts, Cushmanshuttle vehicles and Bad Boy off-road utility vehicles becauseof concerns a displacing ball joint can cause crashes, theConsumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) said. The threaded end of the rack rod ball joint can break andthe ball joint can become displaced, causing the driver to losesteering control, the CPSC said in a statement on its website. No date was fixed but the first test is scheduled forSpain's Jerez circuit on Feb. 7-9. Rivals Mercedes have already said they will not have theirnew car on track until the second test in Barcelona on Feb. 21to give themselves as much time as possible for design anddevelopment.
